Winter Sport's Carnival

NETBALL

We took 23 students to Netball at Kelly Park, making up two teams called Kiewa Valley C1 and Kiewa Valley C2 in the C Division of the competition. Both teams played 5 games throughout the day against teams from schools such as Chiltern, Rutherglen, Wodonga PS, St Monicas and Victory Lutheran. Kiewa Valley C1, wearing brown and gold coloured netball bibs, enjoyed 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Kiewa Valley C2, wearing pink coloured netball bibs, started the day strong with 3 wins and finished it with 2 losses. Overall, our Kiewa teams finished 6th and 7th on the ladder for C Division.

The girls showed incredible teamwork, enthusiasm and energy throughout the day, cheering on and always supporting each other. We are proud of how well they represented Kiewa Valley Primary School. A huge thank you to Jacqui Miller for coaching and training both netball teams.

            

FOOTBALL

Kiewa AFL team headed to the Showgrounds in Wodonga for a day of footy at the Wodonga Winter Sports Carnival. 15 boys and 2 girls, dressed in footy jumpers, boots and mouthguards, took part in section B of the competition.

Game 1 was against Beechworth and the team went down by 11 points in a pretty tough game. The second game was against St Francis 2 and saw our team victorious with a score of 59 to 0.

Game 3 versus St Monicas, saw Kiewa come away with the points 20 to 0. The last game prior to finals was against Barnawartha and our team, which was playing so well together by this stage, won with a score of 40 to 1.

The team played so well together, showing regard for team mates, respect, sportsmanship for opponents and umpires and were very supportive at all times. Coach Luke was especially pleased with all members of the team and the way they went about their games for the whole day.

In the final they came up against Beechworth for the second time. This time Kiewa had most of the play, but unfortunately the bounce didn’t go their way and they ended up losing 8 to 18, to a bigger and stronger team.

TEE - BALL

A wonderful day was had by, with the weather putting on a show this year. I am so proud of the Tee-Ball team (10 players), who played in B-Division, and managed to post 4 wins from 6 games - only losing 7-5 and 9-8 in two closely fought contests. Overall our team finished 2nd of 6 teams in the division and fell short by only 1 win.

But the day will not be remembered for only winning. The real reward was seeing the players work so well as a team, playing for each other and gaining in confidence the longer the day went on. This was a team that don’t play Tee-Ball on a weekly basis and we didn’t play Tee-Ball in the lead-up to the carnival in P.E. this year. But it was clear that the skills learned last year in P.E. served them well. The players hitting went from strength to strength with each game and our fielding also improved with a couple great catches and good base fielding.

Our fair play and sportsmanship was second to none and the team did our school proud with how they presented themselves. Every player had a highlight they were proud of over the course of the day and we celebrated every player before heading home on the bus. I would also like to congratulate Tauriel, Bella and Lilly who did not hesitate in offering themselves to another team if they were short.

Congratulations boys and girls – you were awesome! I will remember this Tee-Ball team for a long time. It was a great day.
